Lighthouse, Malmö Festival 2008.

About

As one of three major activities during our nightly events at Lördagsplan, Malmö Festival 2008, we created this simple multiplayer game where by-passers could just pick up one of the massive controllers and start playing for a minute.

The game we created is essentially a worm/tron type of game where you're supposed to outthink your opponents, trapping them in the game.

Interaction

The controlers, which physical design is attributed to Mattias and implementation by Andreas, use the Arduino microcontroller with an XBee shield for the wireless radio communication.

Every controller has 3 buttons (Left, right and join game) which would let participants quickly grasp the concept of the game.

Each controller is lit in the base and the middle, each in the same colour that they represent on the screen. I.e. the controller lit in blue also controls the blue player.

Future

We have plans of taking this concept further, creating a game-platform for large events that could be placed outdoors. Also, using more advanced sensor technologies the interaction will be improved to allow for more intuitive controls.
