Workshop - concept generation for multitouch technologies

This is a FREE workshop call for K3 staff and students with a major in Interaction Design (BA, MA, or PhD level). K3 is the School of Arts and Communication at Malmö University, Sweden.

INTRODUCTION

1scale1 is proud to announce our first workshop on concept generation within the subject of multitouch technologies. The workshop is an internal activity for K3 members and will count with the participation and support of FLATFROG, NUI, TAT, and TACTEL

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

This workshop is an opportunity to get your ideas into reality by discussing them with experts in the field. It is also a good chance to get access to interesting thesis jobs with one of the above mentioned companies. The application process is now open, we will select a maximum of 15 participants among the academic community. If selected you should be ready to commit yourself to working with the workshop during the two full days it lasts.

Winter Workshops 5th January'09 – 9th January'09

After our positive response from our summer arduino workshops we at 1scale1 have decided that we are once again going to host a week of arduino workshops. This time we have decided to concentrate on two different workshops, one basic arduino introducing the participant how to work with arduino and one more advanced covering new techniques and sensors. The location will once again be at Malmo University Art and Culture department and the date is 5th January'09 – 9th January'09. If you are interested please click on the links below to read more about it.

Elektrogodis at KomTEK Helsingborg

During two days in November 1scale1 will be hosting a Elektrogodis workshop at KomTEK in Helsingborg, Sweden. The workshop will circle about how to create toys and instruments from "junk" and will be built upon the work we did for Malmo Festivalen during the summer. There is going to be one session for teachers in the region and one for students at KomTEK at the age of 12-14.

We know what we did this Summer

During Malmö Festivalen we did a eight day workshop for kids (of all ages). It was called Elektrogodis and the idea was to let the participants build different instruments and toys out of electronic components and recycled materials to take home as a interactive souvenir.

The workshop really was a success in all aspects. First off, we had a very fun time and we’re sure that our approximetly 240 participants did too. We also encountered many extremely talented kids with extraordinary imagination and creativity which gave us inspiration and hope for the future. The only downside was that we didn’t have enough circuits and batteries to let everybody who wanted to participate in the workshops. Hopefully though, there will be plenty of other opportunities for those who didn’t get to take part in the workshops this time.

If you are interested in Elektrogodis or 1scale1, please feel free to contact us!

Arup

The last 7 weeks David Sjunnesson have been in London working together with the Arup Foresight team with one of their projects called Faraday. The project is about how Science can be taught in the British schools in key stage 3-4 and the end product is a building proposal for two new Brittish schools that is being built this year. Together they have developed concepts and end product specification in six different categories ranging from how robotics can be used in educations and what and where to buy the products to how to display the history of the school and use that information in education.

1scale1 going soft

A quick and dirty, home made breadboard of the soft kind made with stripes of conductive foam, cloth and some thread.

Moving Planks

The Moving planks project is a collaboration between the 1scale1 and the ITU University of Copenhagen based upon Anna Vallgarda research on composite material. The goal was to visualise sound into wood. The piece consists of ten planks that are individually programmed to react on sound and do so by bending when spoken to and retract if the surroundings are quiet.
