Full Body Arduino at Reboot 11

1scale1 was invited to host an intense crash course during Reboot 11 in Copenhagen, Denmark. We decided to go for the full body interaction theme and teach the participants to create the "body synth" from scratch creating a very direct and play full interface. The workshop went really well even though a very small location in the form of a locker room with a bit to many participants. Pictures of the location and the workshop can be found at flickr and below you have the video with us testing the interface with the children in the Kindergarten at Reboot before the workshop. As seen it is a very direct and fun way of playing with electronics and we will continue to explore possibilities with this technique

From Business to Buttons

This week 1scale1 are hosting a booth at the Business to button conference in Malmo, Sweden. Business to  button is a interaction design confernce hosting several well know names  such as Garr Reynolds, Bill DeRouchey and now 1sclae1! More information can be found at http://businesstobuttons.com/.

Feel free to come by our booth where we are handing out playfull soundtoys for everyone to enjoy and we love a chat about physical  prototyping or interaction design in general.

FabLab

We at 1scale1 are happy to anouce that we are going to be part of the upcoming FabLab in Malmo. It is a joint project between Stapelbädsparken, Malmo City, ABF and 1scale1 and it is planned to start during the summer of 2009 with renovating the to be FabLab building and start full on during 2010. We will move our office to the upcoming FabLab and offer our expertise in Interaction design, physical prototyping, multitouch and computer vision to the visitors. We at 1scale1 are very excited to what this collaboratrion will bring and  are sure that many interesting, funny, provocating and challenging  projects will emerge from this. More information will be posted here once it is decided but for now here is some links.

Tabletalk

This weekend an old project called Tabletalk from 2006 surfaced again and hit the frontpage of the biggest newspaper in souther Sweden. Read more here The project is about visualizing something invisible and make it visible, aesthetic and pleasing to watch. We choosed to work with speech and using a café table to represent it at.

We see our prototype as a cultural piece and not as a problem solving gadget. We want our technology to be secondary, or on the periphery to the bigger picture, giving the participants a visually exiting table. But if you sit at the table for a longer time you will hopefully understand how the table works.

The effect that we are aiming for is not to disturb the already existing social patterns but rather to give them an extra dimension if you choose to pick up on it.

Workshop at KomTek

Last week 1scale1 was visiting KomTek in Helsingborg, Sweden to host a workshop in Electrogodis. The participant were 5-9 Grade teacher from schools around the city. Together we built up a couple of different electronic instruments and also gave the teachers a short introduction to physical prototyping and how to work with electronics in a fun and exploring way with their students. All in all the outcome was very good and the workshop was very appreciated. More pictures can be found at Flickr

Workshop in DMX and MIDI with Stagevision

During one day in January 1scale1 will be hosting an intense workshop in how to combine Arduino with MIDI and DMX. It is hosted together with Stagevision and is part of their "Digital picture" conference which, except the Arduino workshop, also include how to work with Pandoras box, innovative Stage and theater tehniques and much more.

For complete  information please see their webpage

When: 13th January 2009

Where: K3, Malmo University

Winter Workshops 5th January'09 – 9th January'09

After our positive response from our summer arduino workshops we at 1scale1 have decided that we are once again going to host a week of arduino workshops. This time we have decided to concentrate on two different workshops, one basic arduino introducing the participant how to work with arduino and one more advanced covering new techniques and sensors. The location will once again be at Malmo University Art and Culture department and the date is 5th January'09 – 9th January'09. If you are interested please click on the links below to read more about it.

Elektrogodis at KomTEK Helsingborg

During two days in November 1scale1 will be hosting a Elektrogodis workshop at KomTEK in Helsingborg, Sweden. The workshop will circle about how to create toys and instruments from "junk" and will be built upon the work we did for Malmo Festivalen during the summer. There is going to be one session for teachers in the region and one for students at KomTEK at the age of 12-14.

Arup

The last 7 weeks David Sjunnesson have been in London working together with the Arup Foresight team with one of their projects called Faraday. The project is about how Science can be taught in the British schools in key stage 3-4 and the end product is a building proposal for two new Brittish schools that is being built this year. Together they have developed concepts and end product specification in six different categories ranging from how robotics can be used in educations and what and where to buy the products to how to display the history of the school and use that information in education.

Poweruino

PoweruinoPoweruino is the latest circuit from 1scale1. It has the possibility to control more power demanding components with PWM than an ordinary Arduino yet still retains the possibility to use the numerous sensors and code examples available to the Arduino platform. It also incorporates pins for i2c communication and a possibility to solder an RGB high power led straight onto the board. The board is designed as a part of my final thesis work at the Interaction design program at Malmo Univeristy circulating around color and light. The circuit will be used to visualize power consumption by illuminating and animating a wall with different colors.
